Modify your SKS for XCR magazines

Four steps to run XCR-pattern magazines in the Nikai chassis. When you're done, your rifle still takes the OEM magazine and the original stock.

Before you start

Make sure the rifle is unloaded and the chamber is clear, and wear eye protection while grinding. Remove material slowly and test-fit often. You are responsible for following the laws where you live, including magazine limits.

01

Clear the trigger group

Shave down the protrusions at the front of the trigger group so they don't obstruct the magazine. Don't go all the way down to the pin. Leave about 2 mm of material.

02

Trim the bolt

Shave the side "wings" of the bolt down to the level of the bolt walls so it clears the magazine feed lips. Don't cut into the bolt face.

Not sure you've taken off enough? Hold a magazine and check whether the bolt fits between its feed lips.

03

Open up the action

Shave down the raised sections on the sides of the action and the lip in front of the chamber. Take the raised sections down until they're in line with the rest of the receiver, and no further.

04

Keep bolt hold-open

Optional, recommended

To keep bolt hold-open working, shave about 1 mm from the underside and the front of the bolt catch.

If you'd rather skip it, remove the pin holding the bolt catch and take the bolt catch out.

That's it. Now print the chassis.
